Sleep disorders are one of the most common complaints in our society today. More than 50 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders.

Sleep is essential for mental and physical restoration. Individual needs vary, but the normal range of sleep is five to ten hours per night.

It is not uncommon for people to experience disruptive sleep at some point in their lives. Disruptive sleep may last a few nights or it may become prolonged, negatively affecting a person’s quality of life.

Most people with sleep disorders will complain of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). EDS is characterized by feelings of drowsiness during the day with an overwhelming need to sleep despite getting “adequate” sleep the previous night. EDS is commonly associated with a sleep disorder.

The Epworth Sleepiness Scale is a sleep quiz created to assess your level of daytime sleepiness. Take the Sleep Quiz and assess your level of daytime sleepiness.

EDS is common with the following sleep disorders: Sleep Apnea, Narcolepsy, Restless Leg Syndrome, Periodic Limb Movements of Sleep and Insomnia.
